i10 ABS Fault

Hey, I'm having trouble with my 2008 Hyundai i10 diesel. At 87909 km, the ABS light keeps coming on, I'm getting traction problems, and the ABS seems to have completely failed. Diagnostics point to a defective control unit, and I'm worried it'll cost over 1000€. Has anyone else had this issue and found a fix?

Summary of the thread

A 2008 Hyundai i10 diesel is experiencing ABS failure, with the ABS light on and traction issues at 87909 km. Initial diagnostics suggest a defective control unit, raising concerns about repair costs exceeding 1000€. A suggestion is made to check the wheel speed sensors, as a faulty sensor could cause similar symptoms. Ultimately, the issue was confirmed to be the ABS control unit, which was repaired at a workshop for 1000€.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

I had a similar issue with my Hyundai i10, though I can't remember the exact year. The ABS light and traction control going haywire sound familiar. Have you checked the wheel speed sensors? In my case, one of the sensors was faulty, sending incorrect data to the ABS module, which caused problems with the speedometer and odometer readings too. Did you check the sensor input values using a diagnostic tool?

That's an interesting idea! I haven't actually checked the wheel speed sensors. I just assumed it was the control unit itself, since the whole system is so messed up. Could a single bad sensor really cause all of these problems?

It's worth checking before you replace the control unit, which is the most expensive part. In my case, yes, a faulty sensor caused the whole system to go mad. While your issue could still be the control unit, rule out the simpler possibilities first. Given the initial diagnostics report, I would take it to a reliable workshop to confirm. It’s what I ended up doing back then.

Thanks for the advice! I'll check the wheel speed sensors first. If that doesn't work, I'll take it to a workshop. Just to let you know, it was the ABS control unit. Workshop fixed it for 1000€.
