i40 Diesel Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2019 Hyundai i40 diesel was experiencing higher fuel consumption, power drop, occasional stalling, and smoke during acceleration. The suspected issue was with the injection system, particularly a faulty connection. A suggestion was made to check the connector to the fuel rail pressure sensor, which was confirmed as the problem due to a slightly corroded pin. After cleaning and securing the connection, the car's performance improved significantly.

Thanks for the tip. The fuel rail pressure sensor connector... Right, I'll check that specifically tomorrow. Was it visibly damaged, or just a loose connection? Did you need any special tools to get to it?

In my experience, there was no visible damage, merely a slightly corroded pin. The workshop confirmed that it was a defective cable or plug connection. I would strongly suggest that you bring your car to the workshop for a comprehensive diagnostic. They'll be able to pinpoint the exact issue.

Appreciate the advice. Turns out you were spot on. Took it to the shop, and it was indeed a faulty connection on the fuel injector rail pressure sensor. They cleaned it up and secured the connection properly. Cost me 95€. Runs like a dream now. Cheers!

I drive an i40 diesel as well and those symptoms sound awfully familiar. I had similar issues a while back. Did you check the connector to the fuel injector rail pressure sensor? That was the culprit in my case. The engine management system becomes compromised with such errors. It resulted in similar symptoms as the one you're describing.
