i40 Oil Temperature Sensor Fault
Summary of the thread
A 2019 Hyundai i40 diesel with 127,225 km is experiencing issues with the oil pressure lamp intermittently lighting up, accompanied by a warning light and error code P0196. This indicates a potential fault with the engine oil temperature sensor or its wiring. Inspection suggests the sensor or internal wiring might be faulty. The recommended solution is to have a qualified workshop diagnose and repair the issue to prevent engine damage.

Thanks! I visually inspected the wiring harness and connector, didn't see anything obvious, but it's hard to tell without special tools. The error code is P0196 - Engine Oil Temperature Sensor Range/Performance. Does that confirm your assessment?

Yes, P0196 confirms a problem with the engine oil temperature sensor circuit. Given the symptoms, error code, and your inspection, the sensor itself is probably faulty or there's an internal wiring issue. To avoid engine damage, I'd take it to a qualified workshop for diagnosis and repair.

Appreciate the help! Took it to a local workshop, and the engine oil temperature sensor was the problem, plus a defective cable connection. Replacement and labor cost 95€.

Those symptoms definitely point to a fault with the oil temperature sensor or wiring. Have you checked the sensor's wiring harness and connector for damage, corrosion, or loose connections? What's the exact error code? That'll help narrow it down.
