Thanks for the detailed write-up about your A3 throttle body problems. My symptoms were identical, and your post really helped me narrow down the issue. The repair shop confirmed it was indeed the throttle position sensor causing the erratic engine behavior. Having a proper air intake system diagnosis made all the difference. Would you mind sharing what the total repair cost was for your car? Also curious if youve experienced any similar throttle control issues since the fix. Just want to make sure I budget correctly and know what to expect long-term with my Audi.

Good news, my throttle control issues were fully resolved after the repair. Since fixing the defective accelerator pedal module, the car has been running perfectly with much better fuel efficiency. The total repair came to 205 Euro, which included the diagnostic work and recalibration of the new module. The car throttle response is now smooth and consistent, no more morning start issues or unstable idle problems. The engine throttle behaves exactly as it should, indicating the shop correctly identified and fixed the root cause. For reference, my fuel consumption returned to normal levels within the first tank after the repair. If your symptoms match what I experienced, the throttle cleaning and module replacement should provide a permanent solution. Have not encountered any similar issues in the 8 months since the repair was completed. Make sure they perform proper throttle body calibration after the fix, its crucial for optimal performance and fuel economy.

Thanks for the input. Took my A1 to a certified shop last week and got the issue sorted. They found the throttle position sensor was failing, just as suggested. The control valve was also quite dirty, affecting the air intake system performance. Total repair cost came to 180 Euro which included: New throttle position sensor, Throttle body cleaning, System calibration Car runs like new now. The engine idle is stable, and fuel economy has improved significantly. Morning starts are smooth again with perfect throttle response. The mechanic also showed me the old parts and explained how the faulty sensor was causing all those issues. Best thing was getting it diagnosed properly first. Saved money by fixing the actual problem rather than guessing. No issues since the repair and the engine throttle control works perfectly now. Should be good for many more kilometers. Really glad I asked here before spending money on unnecessary repairs.

Faced similar throttle position issues with my 2020 Audi A3 gasoline. The symptoms matched exactly, poor fuel economy, rough starts, and unstable idle. The engine throttle response was also inconsistent. Initial throttle cleaning did not resolve it. After proper diagnosis, the accelerator pedal module was identified as faulty. The module was sending incorrect signals to the throttle body, causing erratic engine behavior. This turned out to be a serious issue requiring immediate attention, as it affected both drivability and safety. The repair involved replacing the complete throttle body assembly and recalibrating the new unit. Worth noting that a faulty throttle valve can mimic these symptoms, but proper diagnostic testing will pinpoint the exact cause. Key indicators it was the pedal module: Check engine light with specific throttle position sensor codes, Inconsistent acceleration response, Engine struggling to maintain steady RPM, Significant increase in fuel consumption Recommend getting the throttle position sensor tested before any repairs. This specific issue is not uncommon in VAG engines and requires specialized diagnostic equipment.
