Impala ABS Faulty Control Unit
Summary of the thread
A 2006 Chevy Impala is experiencing issues with the ABS system, indicated by a constantly lit ABS lamp and erratic traction control. The suspected cause is a faulty ABS control unit, potentially affecting speed sensor signals. The suggested solution is to use a diagnostic code reader to identify specific error codes, which could confirm the defective control unit as the problem. Ultimately, the issue was resolved by replacing the defective ABS control unit, restoring proper function to the vehicle's systems.

Interesting! A defective control unit, huh? I haven't scanned for codes yet, but will do that first thing tomorrow. Where was the control unit located in your Saab? And did it affect only the ABS? I want to have a better idea where to look for problems.

Yeah, that was the culprit on mine. The control unit was buried somewhere near the ABS pump. And yes, it primarily affected the ABS and traction control since they both rely on accurate speed data from the wheel speed sensors. Honestly, unless you're really comfortable with electrical diagnostics, I'd suggest taking it to a workshop. They have the tools to pinpoint the exact issue.

Appreciate the insight! Turns out you were spot-on. Took it to my trusted mechanic, and they confirmed a defective ABS control unit. Cost me around 1000€ to replace, but at least everything is working smoothly now. Thanks again for the help!

Sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my old Saab 9-3. ABS light, traction control going nuts... turned out to be a defective control unit messing with the speed sensor signals. Do you have a diagnostic code reader? See if it's throwing any specific codes related to the ABS, transmission, or ECM. It could point you in the right direction.
