Inconsistent starting problems and loss of power on Audi A3

Hi all, I am experiencing some problems with my Audi A3. I have noticed that the cold start time is not consistent, sometimes it takes longer than others. Also, when I am driving, the car loses power when accelerating. The engine light is also on. I have been told at the shop that I might have a severe problem with the engine.
