Infiniti FX ABS Warning Lights: Speed Sensor or More?

Hey there, I've got a 2013 Infiniti FX Diesel (193K km) and I'm dealing with some ABS issues. The ABS and DSC warning lights are on, and there's also a warning light in the speedometer. My previous mechanic experience wasn't great, so I'm a bit hesitant to go back. I suspect it might be a faulty wheel speed sensor. Has anyone experienced similar symptoms? Would love to hear about your repair experience and rough cost estimates. Also, any recommendations for reliable mechanics who are good with Infiniti ABS systems would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hey! Had a similar issue with my 2010 Infiniti EX30d (diesel) last summer. Initially thought it was just a wheel sensor too, but turned out the ABS control unit itself was defective. The symptoms were exactly like yours ABS light, DSC warning, and the speedo warning all lit up like a Christmas tree. Took it to the Infiniti specialist after a bad experience with a regular garage. They ran a proper diagnostic and found that the ABS unit had internal corrosion apparently a known issue in these models. Had to get the entire unit replaced, not just repaired. It was serious enough that they advised not to drive the car until fixed due to safety concerns with the brake system. If you're in the same boat, I'd strongly recommend going straight to an Infiniti specialist rather than a general mechanic. The ABS system in these cars is pretty complex, and you want someone who knows what they're doing. The specialist I used had dealt with this exact problem before on several FX models. Best of luck sorting it out.

Thanks for sharing your experience! That sounds spot on with what I'm experiencing. Do you remember roughly how much the repair cost you? Also, has everything been running smoothly since the fix, or have you had any other ABS-related issues pop up?

Hey again! Just wanted to update you I got my car back from the specialist last week, and yep, it was exactly what I suspected. The total bill came to 1000€ to fix the faulty ABS control unit. The good news is they also spotted and fixed the wheel speed sensor issue during the diagnostic, which was causing those annoying warning lights. I've put about 500 km on it since the repair, and it's running like a dream now no warning lights, no issues with the ABS, and the stability control is working perfectly. Honestly, it feels like a different car! The braking is much smoother, and I've got way more confidence in the system, especially in wet conditions. For what it's worth, even though it wasn't cheap, I'm really glad I got it sorted properly at a specialist rather than trying to save a few bucks at a regular garage. These Infinitis can be tricky beasts when it comes to electronics, and it's worth paying extra for someone who really knows what they're doing. Let me know if you need any other info happy to help!

Thanks for that detailed follow-up! I really appreciate you sharing your repair costs and experience. I actually just got back from the mechanic myself today. Turns out you were right about going to a specialist they diagnosed it as a faulty ABS control unit too, just like your case. Bill came to around 1200€ total, bit more than yours but included some other minor fixes they found during inspection. The whole experience wasn't as bad as I feared. The specialist was really thorough and even showed me the corroded unit they replaced. They also did a complete system check to make sure everything else was working properly. Just drove it home and what a difference! No more warning lights, and the braking feels so much more responsive now. Really glad I followed your advice about going to an Infiniti specialist instead of trying to save money at a regular shop. Thanks again for helping me out with this. It's definitely given me more confidence in dealing with these kinds of issues in the future!
