Thanks for sharing your experience! That's really helpful since your symptoms match exactly what I'm dealing with. Quick question do you remember roughly how much the repair cost you? Also, has everything been running smoothly since the fix, or have you had any other issues pop up? Just want to know what I might be in for, both cost-wise and if I should expect any related problems down the road.

Hey again! Yeah, I can definitely help with those details. I actually just had this fixed at my mechanic the bill came to 355€ for sorting out the faulty EGR valve. They found a functional error that was making it stick, and since getting it fixed, my QX30's been running like a dream! No more rough idle, no more engine cuts, and that annoying exhaust smell is totally gone. Haven't had a single problem since the repair, which was a huge relief. The car feels as smooth as it did when I first got it. I was worried it might be something more serious (or expensive!), but the EGR valve was definitely the culprit. My mechanic did a thorough job testing everything afterward to make sure it was all working properly. I'd say it's worth getting yours checked out ASAP catching these things early usually saves you from bigger headaches down the road. Trust me, you'll notice the difference right away once it's fixed!

What a relief! Just got back from the mechanic and wanted to update you. You were spot on it was definitely the EGR valve. Mine ended up costing a bit more (480€) since they had to replace the valve completely instead of just cleaning it. Guess that's what happens when you wait too long! The whole thing took about two days because they had to order the part, but wow, what a difference! Took it for a test drive today and it's running so smoothly now. No more shaking, no more scary cut-outs, and that awful exhaust smell is finally gone. The mechanic I found was actually great super thorough and explained everything they were doing. Thanks again for sharing your experience it really helped me know what to expect and gave me confidence to get it sorted. Definitely learned my lesson about dealing with these issues sooner rather than later!

I had a similar issue with my 2017 Infiniti QX30 diesel last year. The symptoms were spot on with what you're describing rough idle, engine cutting out during drives, and that nasty exhaust smell coming through. The check engine light got me worried too. Took it to my trusted mechanic, and it turned out the EGR valve was completely stuck open with carbon build-up. They had to remove the valve, clean it thoroughly, and replace some worn-out components. Since my car had lower mileage (around 90k km) when this happened, theyaged to save the valve with a proper cleaning. This was definitely a serious issue that needed immediate attention if left unfixed, it could've led to more engine problems down the line. The repair took about a day and a half because they wanted to make sure everything was properly cleaned and tested. I'd suggest finding a mechanic who specializes in Infinitis or at least has good experience with diesel engines. The EGR system is pretty complex on these cars, and you want someone who knows what they're doing.
