Insight knock sensor issue
Summary of the thread
A 2009 Honda Insight hybrid is experiencing issues with the check engine light, increased fuel consumption, and uneven idling, suspected to be related to the knock sensor. The problem may be due to a defective cable or plug connection. It is suggested to check the ignition timing and scan for specific error codes to confirm the knock sensor issue. Ultimately, taking the car to a repair shop is recommended for proper diagnosis and repair, which confirmed a faulty connection in the knock sensor.

Thanks for the quick response! I haven't checked the ignition timing myself; that's a bit beyond my comfort zone, to be honest. As for the error codes, I did scan it, and it pointed towards the knock sensor. But you're right, it could be something else causing the same symptoms. Was your error code also specifically pointing to the knock sensor when you had this problem?

Yep, the error code on mine was also indicating a problem with the knock sensor. Given that and the similar symptoms, it's highly likely that's your culprit too. To be honest, unless you're really comfortable with auto electrics, it might be best to bite the bullet and take it to a workshop. They can properly diagnose and fix the wiring or replace the sensor if needed.

Appreciate the confirmation and advice! I was hoping to avoid the repair shop, but it seems like the best course of action. I took it to a local mechanic, and they confirmed it was indeed the knock sensor, with a faulty connection. They replaced the connector and charged me 95€. Thanks again for the help, knowing someone else had the same issue gave me the confidence to get it sorted!

Hey! I had a similar issue with my Insight. Same symptoms: check engine light, terrible fuel economy, and the engine was shaking like crazy at idle. Did you check the ignition timing? Also, have you tried scanning for specific error codes beyond just the generic 'check engine' warning? That might give you a clearer idea if it's definitely the knock sensor or something else entirely.
