Insight Overheating Faulty Connection

I'm having a nightmare with my 2021 Honda Insight hybrid. It's got about 62,000 km on the clock, and lately, it's been acting up! The engine's been overheating, and the check engine light is on. I noticed a coolant spill under the car. It seems like there's too much pressure in the cooling system. Anyone experienced anything similar? I'm pulling my hair out!

Summary of the thread

A 2021 Honda Insight hybrid with 62,000 km is experiencing engine overheating, a check engine light, and a coolant spill, indicating excessive pressure in the cooling system. A possible cause is a faulty connection in the CAN bus system, potentially affecting the engine control module (ECM) or hybrid system control module. The solution involves inspecting and repairing defective wiring or plug connections, which was confirmed and resolved by a workshop, restoring the vehicle to normal operation.

I had a similar issue with my Insight, though it manifested a bit differently at first. It sounds like you might be dealing with a control unit communication error. The overheating, check engine light, and coolant issues could all stem from a faulty connection somewhere in the CAN bus system. Have you had any diagnostic trouble codes read? The car's data link might point you to a specific area to investigate for a wiring issue.

Thanks for the quick reply! Control unit communication error, huh? That sounds pretty serious. I haven't had the codes read yet, but I was planning to. Where exactly should I be looking for this 'faulty connection' you mentioned? Any specific cables or plugs I should check first?

Without knowing the exact diagnostic trouble code, it's difficult to pinpoint the precise location. However, given the symptoms you describe, focus on inspecting the wiring and connectors related to the engine control module (ECM) and the hybrid system control module. A defective cable or plug connection is a probable cause. If you lack experience, I suggest visiting a workshop.

After running the diagnostic and taking it to the shop, you were spot on – it was a defective connection! They traced it back to a faulty plug in the engine control unit wiring. 95€ later, everything's back to normal. Thanks a million for your help!
