Insight Torque Converter Failure
Summary of the thread
A 2000 Honda Insight hybrid is experiencing issues with the check engine light, automatic transmission light, gear slippage, grinding noises during shifts, and codes indicating a torque converter lock-up clutch problem. Possible causes include a faulty solenoid or a failing torque converter. The recommended solution is to have the vehicle inspected by a professional to prevent further damage, and a shop confirmed the torque converter failure.

Engine surge? It's hard to tell with the slippage. Solenoid issue, you say? How would I diagnose that before condemning the entire converter?

If it's intermittent and more pronounced under light load, solenoid is plausible. But grinding sounds like converter failure to me. Probably best to get it checked at a shop before it grenades.

Appreciate the input. Shop confirmed converter failure. Quoted 2120€ for the repair. Ouch.

Sounds rough. Is the engine surging at all when it's trying to lock up? Could be a simple solenoid issue, or worse, the converter itself.
