Insignia automatic transmission slipping

My 2020 Vauxhall Insignia with a gasoline engine is acting up. At 191856 km, the check engine light and transmission indicator are on. The gearbox feels like it's slipping, especially under load, and sometimes I get grinding noises when it shifts. An OBD reader shows a torque converter lock-up clutch error. Could the automatic transmission converter really be the problem? It almost feels like the engine is surging sometimes. Any ideas?

Sounds familiar! I had a similar issue with my old Peugeot – felt like driving through treacle. Is the car hesitating, almost like it can't decide which gear it wants? For me, it was a faulty torque converter in the auto transmission. Was the error code specific about the converter?

The error code was pretty specific about the torque converter lock-up clutch being defective. Did yours have similar symptoms – the slipping and the grinding? How did you eventually diagnose it for sure?

Exactly the same symptoms: slipping, grinding. The error code was a big clue, but I took it to a trusted mechanic to confirm. They did some tests on the transmission, and it was definitely the torque converter. Get it properly checked, you don't want to cause more damage.

Appreciate the insight! A transmission specialist confirmed it's the torque converter. Quoted 2120€ for the repair. Ouch! But at least I know what it is now.
