Insignia Crankcase Ventilation Issue

I'm getting seriously frustrated with my 2014 Vauxhall Insignia (gasoline engine). The check engine light keeps popping on, and I've noticed a definite drop in power. To top it off, there's visible smoke puffing out when I accelerate hard. I've scanned the codes and it's pointing towards a crankcase ventilation valve malfunction. Anyone else experienced this?

Sounds familiar. I've got an Insignia too, and I had almost the same symptoms a while back. Smoke, loss of power... nightmare! It could be a blocked or leaking PCV valve. That valve is part of the crankcase ventilation system; it's there to relieve pressure in the crankcase. If it fails it can cause all sorts of issues.

So, if that valve is defective, it could cause smoke? And reduced engine power? Is it a hard thing to fix myself or is that a job for the workshop?

Yeah, a faulty PCV valve can definitely cause those symptoms. The positive crankcase ventilation is not working as it should. As for fixing it yourself, I'm no expert, but it depends on your skill level. It involves getting to the valve, removing it, replacing it, and hoping that fixes the problems. If you're not totally confident, I'd say get it to a workshop.

Thanks for the advice! I think I'll book it into a workshop. I'm not risking messing anything else up. The repair ended up costing me 360€, but at least the car is running smoothly again.
