Insignia Hissing Noise and Fuel Consumption

Hello, I have a 2008 Vauxhall Insignia with a gasoline engine. Recently, I've noticed higher fuel consumption and the check engine light comes on intermittently. Also, there's a loud hissing noise when accelerating. My mileage is 26532 km. I suspect it might be an air intake leak somewhere, but I am not sure where to look first.

A hissing sound combined with those symptoms certainly points to a vacuum leak in the intake system. Have you checked the air filter and the large intake hose that connects to the throttle body? A crack there would definitely cause these issues.

Thanks for your reply. I haven't checked the intake hose specifically yet. Where exactly should I be looking for the leak, and what is the likelihood of it being the intake manifold itself?

While it is plausible the intake manifold gasket could be the source, the intake hose is the likelier culprit, given the age of the vehicle. I suggest having a qualified technician examine the entire intake tract for integrity.
