Thanks for the quick reply. Could you tell me which specific cable or plug connections you mean? Are they easy to get to, or do I need to take apart the steering column?

Okay, so I'm no expert, but from what I remember, it was one of the electrical connectors going into the electric steering unit itself, near the base of the steering column. It wasn't immediately obvious; you kind of have to feel around for it. Honestly, I fiddled with it a bit but ended up taking it to a workshop. They sorted it out properly. It's probably best to let them have a look, just to be safe!

I appreciate the advice. It does seem prudent to have it professionally inspected. As it turns out, the cable connection was indeed defective, as you suspected. The repair cost 95€. Thank you again for your assistance!

Wow, that sounds familiar! I've got an Insignia too, and had almost the EXACT same thing happen a while back. The vibrating steering wheel was the first sign, then it just got harder and harder to turn. Did you check the cable and plug connections on the steering column? That's what caused my issues.
