Insignia Reduced Engine Power

I'm experiencing an issue with my 2016 Vauxhall Insignia (gasoline engine). Mileage is at 80727 km. The engine power is noticeably reduced, and the check engine light is on. I scanned it using an auto scanner, and a fault code was detected. I suspect it might be related to a dodgy chip tuning installation done by a third-party provider before I bought it.

Sounds like a real pain. I had a similar issue on my old Peugeot. Not the same car, of course, but the symptoms sound familiar. Reduced power, check engine light always on... Did the auto scanner give you a specific fault code? Knowing that might help narrow things down. Was the aftermarket chip tuning detectable during the car computer scan? Sometimes, they can mask it.

Yes, the scan tool did show a code, but I didn't write it down immediately. I can check again later. As for the chip tuning, is there a way to specifically check for that with a car computer? I thought it was just a matter of overwriting the original ECU map.

Yeah, my Peugeot was throwing all sorts of random codes because of the tuning. As for checking, some workshops have diagnostic tools that can detect if the ECU has been tampered with. They can see if the software is original or modified. Best bet is probably getting it checked out by a workshop before it causes more damage.

Thanks for the advice. I'll take it to a workshop and have them check the ECU for any signs of modification. Hopefully, it's a simple fix and won't cost too much. In the end the repair set me back 180€.
