Inspire ABS Light Traction Problems

Hi, I'm having a weird issue with my 2003 Honda Inspire with a gasoline engine. My ABS lamp lights up randomly, and I'm also experiencing traction problems, almost like the ABS system is failing. I've noticed it happens more often at higher speeds. The odometer seems fine. Could this be a speed sensor issue? I read that a defective control unit might be the cause. Has anyone dealt with this?

Summary of the thread

A 2003 Honda Inspire owner reported issues with the ABS light randomly illuminating and experiencing traction problems, particularly at higher speeds. The problem was suspected to be related to a speed sensor or a defective control unit. Another individual with similar past issues suggested that the ABS control unit might be the cause. After professional diagnosis, it was confirmed that the ABS control unit was defective, and replacing it resolved the problem.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

I had similar issues with my Inspire. Same ABS light and traction control going nuts. The symptoms you describe were very reminiscent of when I was having a control unit problem. The ABS system is quite sensitive, like a complex orchestra; one instrument out of tune can throw the whole thing off.

Interesting! When you say 'control unit problem', do you mean the ABS control unit itself, or something else in the transmission? Was it gradual, or did it just suddenly start happening? Any idea what the eventual repair cost was?

Yes, it was the ABS control unit. It started intermittently, and then became more frequent. I'd strongly advise you to have it checked by a professional at a workshop equipped to diagnose such faults. It's better to be safe than sorry when dealing with brakes. This sounds to me as the same issue I had. My repair cost around 1000€.

Thanks for the info! That's really helpful. I took it to a workshop, and you were right; the ABS control unit was defective. I ended up replacing it, and that seems to have solved the problem. The final bill was almost exactly what you said. I really appreciate the advice!
