Inspire crankshaft camshaft error

Evening. My 2008 Honda Inspire, gasoline engine, is giving me a headache. 94196 km on the clock. Check engine light's on, power's down, response is poor, and fuel consumption is up. OBD's showing a 'Crankshaft to camshaft reference value' error. I'm thinking crankshaft sensor, but has anyone seen this before I start pulling things apart? Could a bad timing belt do this?

Summary of the thread

A 2008 Honda Inspire is experiencing issues with a check engine light, reduced power, poor response, and increased fuel consumption. The OBD shows a 'Crankshaft to camshaft reference value' error, leading to speculation about a faulty crankshaft sensor or possibly a timing belt issue. A similar past experience suggests that professional diagnostics and repair might be the best solution, as it resolved a comparable problem for another owner.

Oh my goodness! That sounds incredibly frustrating! I had a similar issue with my Inspire – though I can't recall the exact year. The engine light was driving me crazy, and the car felt like it was running on fumes! I'm not super techy, but could it be something to do with the engine synchronization? Did you notice any misfires?

Thanks for the quick reply! Misfires, no, not really. I'm leaning towards the crankshaft sensor because of the error code. When you had a similar issue, did it also point towards the reference value being off? And did you end up replacing the sensor yourself, or did you take it to a shop?

You know, I don't remember the exact error code, but the symptoms sound eerily similar. Honestly, I'm not mechanically gifted enough to even think about replacing the sensor myself. I took it straight to the workshop. They ran diagnostics, confirmed a sensor issue, and sorted it out for me. Best to leave it to the pros, I reckon!

Appreciate the advice! Seems like the best course of action is to get it properly diagnosed. I suspected as much but it is nice to hear that someone else had a similar issue. Will take it to a workshop to get it checked. I'll let you know how it goes! The repair cost me 340€.
