Inspire oxygen sensor heater failure
Summary of the thread
A 2003 Honda Inspire is experiencing a check engine light due to an oxygen sensor heater failure, which is also causing increased fuel consumption. Possible causes include a defective cable or plug connection, or a faulty sensor affecting the air-fuel ratio. Suggested solutions include checking the sensor's wiring harness for damage or corrosion and potentially replacing the sensor, as confirmed by another individual who resolved a similar issue by having the sensor replaced at a workshop.

Thanks for the tip! I'll double-check the wiring harness again, but it looked okay at first glance. When you say "similar", was it the same oxygen sensor heater failure error? And did you notice the fuel consumption increase as well?

Yes, it was indeed the oxygen sensor heater. Now that I think about it, the fuel consumption was not great, yes! I ended up taking it to a workshop. They replaced the sensor, and the problem went away. I would suggest you do the same. It's better to be safe than sorry when dealing with vehicle emissions.

Appreciate the confirmation and advice! I was hoping to avoid the workshop, but it sounds like that's the safest bet. I'll take it in and have them sort it out. They quoted me about 95€, sensor included. Thanks again!

I had something similar happen with my Honda Accord. The malfunction indicator was driving me crazy. Have you checked the sensor's wiring harness for any signs of damage or corrosion? It could be a simple fix, like cleaning the contacts. Was it always on or did it come on after a repair?
