Inspire Poor Cold Start

Hi, I'm having trouble with my 2007 Honda Inspire, gasoline engine. It's got about 247k km on the clock. Recently, I've been experiencing poor engine running during cold starts. The car starts poorly, almost struggling. I suspect a faulty cold start injector. Does anyone have experience with this? I've checked spark plugs and battery, but no luck. Any advice before I start tearing things apart?

Summary of the thread

A 2007 Honda Inspire with 247,000 km is experiencing poor engine performance during cold starts. The initial suspicion is a faulty cold start injector, as spark plugs and battery have already been checked without resolving the issue. Suggestions include checking the fuel pressure at the rail and listening to the injectors for proper operation. Ultimately, a workshop diagnosis confirms the faulty cold start injector, which is replaced, resolving the problem.

Hey there, I had a similar issue with my Inspire, although I can't recall the exact year. Those symptoms sound very familiar. Poor cold starts and rough running definitely point towards a fuel delivery problem. Have you tried checking the fuel pressure at the rail? Also, it might be worth scoping the injector signal to see if it's firing correctly. A defective injection valve or injector could certainly be the culprit.

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't checked the fuel pressure at the rail yet, that's a good shout. I don't have a scope handy, unfortunately. If the fuel pressure checks out, is there a reliable way to confirm the injector is the issue without pulling it and having it professionally tested?

Without a scope or proper testing equipment, it's tricky to definitively confirm the injector. If the fuel pressure is good, you're kind of stuck. You could try listening to each injector with a screwdriver as a makeshift stethoscope to see if they're clicking, but that's not very accurate. Honestly, at this point, to save yourself time and potential headaches, I'd recommend taking it to a reputable workshop. They can diagnose it properly and replace the faulty injector. It'll likely cost around 515€, but it'll save you a lot of guesswork.

Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it. I took it to a local workshop, and after a diagnostic, it turned out to be exactly what we suspected: a faulty cold start injector. They replaced it, and the car is running perfectly now. I'll keep the fuel pressure check in mind for future reference!
