Inspire Stalling Idling Smoke

I own a 2002 Honda Inspire with a gasoline engine, and recently, it's been behaving strangely. My mileage is currently at 58102 km. I've noticed a significant increase in fuel consumption, a noticeable reduction in engine power, and the engine has an alarming tendency to stall when idling. Furthermore, there's a concerning amount of smoke emanating from the exhaust when I accelerate. I've visually inspected the engine bay, and all I could detect was a slightly loose cable or plug connection near what I believe is the injection system. Could this be the culprit, or am I facing a more serious issue?

Summary of the thread

A 2002 Honda Inspire owner reported issues with increased fuel consumption, reduced engine power, stalling when idling, and smoke from the exhaust during acceleration. A loose cable near the injection system was suspected as a potential cause. Another owner with a similar experience suggested checking the fuel lines and filter. The initial problem was resolved by fixing the loose cable, costing 95€, and the owner plans to have a thorough inspection by a mechanic.

Whoa, that sounds rough! I drive an Inspire as well, though I can't remember what year mine is. But I had a similar issue last year. Reduced power, weird idling... felt like the car was choking. Like trying to run a marathon with a plastic bag over your head. I didn't see any loose cables, but it probably is related to fuel! Check your fuel lines and filter too!

Thank you for your insights! When you experienced this, did the engine stall completely at idle, and did you observe any smoke upon acceleration? Also, if you don't mind me asking, did you notice any unusual fuel consumption before the issue became more pronounced? I'm attempting to gather as much information as possible before I take it to a workshop.

Yep, stalled a few times at lights, and the smoke was embarrassing! Though, I didn't notice the consumption early. It was like the issue showed up with no warning. If you saw a loose cable, my bet is that is your problem. Still, it is best to go to the workshop; it will be about 100€, but at least you will be sure.

I extend my sincere gratitude for sharing your experience. Based on your input, I am now more confident that the loose connection is indeed the primary cause of the problem. I took it to the shop and they found the defective cable as well; 95€ later, my car is now fixed! I will proceed to bring it to a trusted mechanic for a thorough inspection and the necessary repairs.
