Ioniq Bypass Valve Error Overheating

I've got a perplexing issue with my 2020 Hyundai Ioniq hybrid. At 24598 km, I've received a bypass valve error notification, with indications of engine overheating. I haven't noticed performance issues like power loss or stalling, but the error and overheating concern me. Any insight into the root cause or suggestions on what to check before service? Could it be related to the vacuum system or air intake? Any advice appreciated.

Summary of the thread

A 2020 Hyundai Ioniq hybrid experienced a bypass valve error and engine overheating at 24,598 km, without noticeable performance issues. The problem was suspected to be related to a vacuum leak or air intake obstruction, but no coolant loss was observed. It was suggested that the error might be a 'ghost code' from another issue. Upon taking the car to a workshop, it was confirmed that the bypass valve was not the primary issue, and the error was due to an unrelated problem, which was resolved under warranty.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Bypass valve error plus overheating suggests a potential vacuum leak affecting the valve's operation. The hybrid's coolant system is complex; are you losing coolant? It's also possible the bypass valve error is a ghost code from something else.

Thanks. I haven't observed any noticeable coolant decrease, but I will monitor it more closely. If the bypass valve error is a 'ghost code,' what other potential issues could trigger such an error? What specific areas related to the air intake or vacuum system should I inspect?

If the coolant level is stable, and assuming no obvious intake obstructions, the bypass valve itself is probably fine. Overheating + a bypass valve code on a hybrid points to a deeper, underlying issue the car's computer is misinterpreting. Get it to a workshop.

Thanks. I took it to a workshop. As you suspected, the bypass valve itself wasn't the primary issue. The error was indeed a consequence of another unrelated problem. The repair was covered under warranty, at no cost.
