Ioniq immobilizer issue
Summary of the thread
A 2016 Hyundai Ioniq owner experienced issues with the immobilizer, where the car either wouldn't start or would start briefly before dying. Suspecting a problem with the key's programming, the owner sought advice. It was suggested that the issue might be due to faulty car electronics or incorrect key programming, and a visit to a workshop was recommended. The workshop confirmed the key needed reprogramming, resolving the issue.

Good questions! How would I check if the key signal is reaching the ignition control? Is that something I can test myself, or do I need specialist equipment? Regarding the error code, I'd have to check again, but is there a list of typical error codes for immobilizer problems with these cars?

Realistically checking the key signal requires diagnostic tools most people don't have. Some error code lists exist online, but Hyundai-specific ones can be tricky to find and interpret correctly. My suggestion? Head to a workshop. They can read the error, reprogram the key, and pinpoint any deeper issues in the car electronics.

Thanks for the advice! Took it to a workshop. Turns out, the key did need reprogramming. Cost me 45€. Sorted now, appreciate the nudge in the right direction!

Incorrect key programming? Interesting thought. Does the key signal even get to the ignition control? Maybe the car electronics are faulty and don't recognise the key? What does the error memory say exactly?
