Ioniq5 AC Failure

Alright Ioniq5 buddies, I'm kinda freaking out. My 2021 Hyundai Ioniq5 (electric, obviously!) is throwing a hissy fit. The AC is completely dead. I'm getting error codes, the AC won't even turn on, and there's a freakin' warning light mocking me from the speedometer. Anyone else had this happen? My mileage is sitting at 49762 km. I suspect it might be the refrigerant compressor, but honestly, I'm just guessing here. Is my beloved ride trying to bankrupt me already?

Summary of the thread

A 2021 Hyundai Ioniq5 owner experienced a complete AC failure, with error codes and a warning light. Initial suspicions pointed to a possible refrigerant compressor issue. After checking fuses and considering a clogged cabin air filter, the problem was confirmed to be a defective AC control unit causing the compressor to fail. The solution involved a costly repair, but the diagnosis provided clarity on the issue.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Woah, that sucks! AC issues in an EV? Seems kinda early for that. Are you sure it's not something simple like a blown fuse? Have you checked the cabin air filter? Sometimes a clogged filter can mess with the whole system. Just throwing out some ideas before you dive into the deep end.

Good shout on the fuse and filter, appreciate it! I did check the fuses, all seem fine. Where exactly IS the cabin air filter in these things? I'll give that a look, but I'm still getting this creeping feeling it's something more sinister, like the compressor giving up the ghost. If it is, any idea what kinda damage I'm looking at?

Yeah, if you've checked the fuses and the filter doesn't seem to be the issue, then it's probably something more serious. From the symptoms you're describing, it definitely sounds like the AC compressor is gone. Honestly, EV or not, AC compressors can fail. Best bet is to take it to a workshop and get a proper diagnosis. Sadly, those AC repairs can be expensive.

Turns out you were spot on! Took it to a shop, and they confirmed it: defective AC control unit causing the compressor to fail. The grand total? A painful 980€. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction; at least I knew what to expect going in!
