Ix20 Diesel No Start
Summary of the thread
A 2017 Hyundai ix20 diesel is experiencing a no-start issue at 58,059 km, with diagnostics indicating an engine control malfunction. Initial checks of the battery cables did not resolve the problem. Suggestions include inspecting battery terminals for corrosion or looseness and checking the main grounding points for the engine and chassis, as these are common causes of electrical issues. While a faulty ECU is considered, it is deemed less likely than connection problems, and a professional diagnostic is recommended to confirm the issue.

Thanks. I visually checked the terminals, but I will check again for corrosion and tightness. I'll check the grounding points too. I don't have the equipment for diagnostic codes. Could a faulty ECU cause this, given the engine control indication?

An ECU issue is possible, but less likely than connection problems. Given the symptoms, I still suspect a power or grounding issue. It's best to get a workshop to do a proper diagnostic before replacing the ECU. That's what I did, and it was a corroded cable connection.

Thanks for the advice. I will book a diagnostic with a workshop. Hopefully, it won't cost too much. The final repair cost amounted to 155€ due to bad cable connections of the battery. Thanks again.

I have an ix20 diesel too. I had a similar issue. Did you check the battery terminals for corrosion or looseness? Even a small thing can break the connection. Also, check the main grounding points for the engine and chassis. A bad ground can cause electrical issues. Are you getting any diagnostic codes?
