ix20 Speed Signal Fault
Summary of the thread
A 2016 Hyundai ix20 experienced a speed signal fault, leading to ABS lamp illumination, traction problems, and ABS system failure. The issue was suspected to be a defective control unit or sensor input malfunction, potentially affecting the odometer through the ECM. After inspection at a workshop, it was confirmed that the control unit was defective, and the problem was resolved with a repair.

I will have to check about the error codes, I do not have them at hand. As for the odometer, it does show the mileage, but could a faulty signal still affect it indirectly through, say, the ECM?

A faulty speed sensor could definitely cause issues interpreted by the ECM, impacting ABS and traction control. Given the symptoms, it's probably the control unit. For the sake of diagnostics, I would suggest having the vehicle inspected at a trusted workshop.

Okay, I went to the shop and it turns out that, as suspected, the control unit was indeed defective. The repair set me back around 1000€, but at least it's fixed now!

I had a similar issue with my ix20. Were there any error codes present when the ABS light illuminated? Does the odometer read correctly, or does it fluctuate?
