ix35 Diesel Jerking Acceleration and Exhaust Smell
Summary of the thread
A 2011 Hyundai ix35 diesel was experiencing jerking during acceleration, reduced engine power, stalling, and a strong exhaust smell, with the check engine light on. The issue was identified as a vacuum leak due to a defective intake manifold, likely caused by gasket failure and scorching around the EGR valve connection. The solution involved replacing the manifold and associated gaskets, which resolved the problem, restoring smooth operation.

How do I inspect the manifold for scorching and gasket failure? Are there specific areas that are more prone to leakage or damage?

The usual suspect is around the EGR valve connection point on the intake manifold. Scorching is a telltale sign of exhaust gas leaking past a failed gasket. You're better off taking it to a workshop; you'll likely need a new manifold. They'll pressure test it to be sure.

I took my ix35 to a trusted workshop. They confirmed the intake manifold was defective due to scorching. The total repair cost came to 1180€, including the replacement of the manifold and associated gaskets. The car is now running smoothly again.

Sounds like you've got a vacuum leak. Check your manifold for scorching. That mileage is about right for gasket failure on the ix35's intake.
