Jaguar F Pace Transmission Sensor Causing Gear Slips

Having strange transmission issues with my 2020 F Pace diesel that seem to point toward a transmission sensor problem. The gearbox occasionally slips and makes grinding noises during gear changes. The transmission warning light came on and the car went into limp mode. The transmission seems to shift roughly and unpredictably at times. My initial research suggests a faulty oil pressure sensor in the transmission could be causing these symptoms. Has anyone dealt with similar transmission issues and had them fixed? Particularly interested in whether replacing the transmission sensor resolved these problems and what diagnostics were needed to confirm it. Also wondering about typical repair time and what other components might need checking while the transmission is being serviced.

I had a similar transmission fault on my 2018 F Type diesel last year, so I can share my repair experience. The symptoms you describe match exactly what I encountered, transmission warning light, rough shifting, and occasional grinding noises. The main issue turned out to be critically low transmission oil level, which triggered the sensor fault and limp mode. My workshop performed pressure gauge testing which confirmed the oil pressure was too low. They found a slow leak had developed, causing the transmission oil to drop below minimum levels. The repair involved: Full transmission diagnostic scan, Oil pressure testing, Replacing old transmission oil, Fixing the minor leak, resetting transmission control module Total repair cost was 365€ and took about 4 hours to complete. After the fix, all transmission issues disappeared completely. Before suggesting more specific solutions, could you share: Current mileage, When was the last transmission service, Are there any visible oil leaks under the car, Which transmission warning messages appear, Does the problem occur more when the engine is cold or warm This information would help determine if your issue is similar to what I experienced or potentially something different.

The issue started after my last service at 110887 KM. The transmission fault seems different from your case since I have no visible leaks under the car. The warning lights and rough shifting happen mostly when the engine is warm, not during cold starts. The transmission sensor fault codes were checked at an independent shop who confirmed the oil pressure sensor was sending erratic readings. They recommended a full diagnostic but wanted to check if others had similar experiences first before proceeding with repairs. A proper pressure test would definitely help pinpoint whether this is just a faulty sensor or a more serious transmission oil pressure issue requiring attention.

Based on your description of warm-engine symptoms and erratic sensor readings, this does sound different from my oil leak situation. After getting the initial diagnosis on my F Type, I had the transmission oil pressure sensor replaced since it was sending inconsistent signals to the control module. The sensor replacement fixed my issues completely. The repair involved: Transmission oil pressure sensor replacement, Clearing fault codes, Test drive to verify proper operation, Oil level check Total cost came to 290€ including parts and labor. The repair took about 2 hours. The key symptom that pointed to the sensor rather than an actual pressure problem was the inconsistent readings. A failing pressure switch often sends fluctuating signals, causing the transmission control unit to get confused and trigger warnings. Given your similar symptoms and diagnostic results showing erratic sensor readings, I would recommend proceeding with the pressure sensor replacement. Just ensure they perform a full transmission oil level check during the repair to rule out any underlying issues. My transmission has worked flawlessly for the past 15000 km since replacing the faulty sensor. The grinding noises and rough shifting completely disappeared after the fix.

The symptoms I'm experiencing seem to match with what you described regarding the faulty pressure sensor. After seeing your successful repair outcome, I feel more confident about proceeding with the sensor replacement. I will schedule the full diagnostic and likely have them replace the transmission oil pressure sensor since the erratic readings match my situation exactly. Good to know the repair time is only around 2 hours and the cost is reasonable at 290€. You make a valid point about having them verify the transmission oil level during the repair. I want to ensure there are no underlying issues beyond the pressure switch problem. The fact that your transmission has worked perfectly for 15000 km after the sensor replacement is very reassuring. Thanks for sharing your detailed experience. I will update the forum once I get the pressure sensor replaced to confirm if it resolves my transmission fault symptoms as well.
