Jaguar X Type Diesel Power Loss & Throttle Response Fix

My 2003 Jaguar X Type diesel (133725km) is acting up with less power than usual and the check engine light just came on. The throttle response delay makes me suspect a faulty throttle body or throttle sensor. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? Really need advice on potential replacement cost and trusted repair options since my last mechanic experience wasnt great.

Had the same throttle response delay issue with my 2006 Jaguar S Type 2.7 Diesel. The symptoms matched exactly, sluggish acceleration, engine idling problems, and reduced power output. The throttle body was failing due to carbon buildup and a degraded throttle sensor. This caused inconsistent readings to the ECU, triggering the check engine light. The repair required a complete throttle body replacement since cleaning alone wasnt enough to restore proper function. This is actually a serious issue that affects fuel efficiency and engine performance. Driving with a faulty throttle sensor can lead to further engine management problems and potential damage if left unaddressed. The repair process involved: Full diagnostic scan, Throttle body removal and replacement, ECU adaptation and throttle relearn procedure, Test drive to confirm proper throttle response Worth noting the throttle body is an electronic component that requires precise calibration after replacement. Would strongly suggest having this done at a shop with experience in Jaguar electronics, as incorrect setup can cause ongoing issues.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the S Type. My X Type had those exact symptoms last winter, poor throttle response, power loss and check engine light. Mind sharing what the total replacement cost was for you? The throttle body repair on mine ended up solving the main issues, but I noticed some engine idling problems a few weeks after. Just wondering if you had any follow-up problems once yours was fixed. I agree completely about needing a specialist, the initial shop I went to struggled with the calibration part and I had to get it redone properly at a Jaguar-certified place.

After getting the throttle valve replaced by a qualified mechanic, my S Type has been running perfectly with no idling issues. The total came to 265€ for fixing the accelerator pedal module, which was actually the root cause rather than the throttle body itself. The electronic throttle sensor was showing incorrect readings due to a failing component in the pedal assembly. Once replaced, the throttle response went back to normal and the check engine light cleared. The air intake system was also cleaned during the service to prevent any related issues. Unlike your experience, I haven't had any follow-up problems since the repair. This highlights how important proper diagnosis is, sometimes what appears as a throttle body issue can actually be related to other components in the electronic throttle control system. Worth mentioning that regular cleaning of the air intake system helps prevent similar issues from developing. The technician recommended this as preventive maintenance every 40000km.

Wanted to update you on how my situation turned out. After reading the advice here, I took my X Type to a certified Jaguar specialist. Getting a proper diagnosis made all the difference. The check engine light was indeed triggered by a faulty throttle sensor. The total repair bill came to 320€, which included replacing both the sensor and cleaning the throttle body. The air flow was seriously restricted due to carbon buildup, which explained the power loss. The throttle response delay disappeared immediately after the repair. The specialist also cleaned the entire air intake system while they were at it. Been driving for about a month now and the engine performance is back to normal with no idling issues. Big lesson learned about going to qualified mechanics from the start. The first shop I tried quoted me double the price and missed the actual problem. Having someone who really knows these engines made the whole process much smoother.
