Jaguar X Type MAF Issues Causing Multiple Engine Problems

Thanks for sharing your experience. This is exactly what happened with my X Type too. The drop in performance was so noticeable, especially when the engine stalling started happening at every red light. I had the mass air flow sensor replaced and everything went back to normal. The whole air intake system got a good clean while they were at it. Curious, do you remember what you paid for the full repair? Also, has everything been running smoothly since the fix? My check engine light hasnt come back on, but I want to make sure Im not missing any potential follow-up issues.

Just wanted to update, after getting the mass air flow sensor fixed at the shop for 365€, my S Type has been running perfectly for over 3 months now. The repair completely resolved all those annoying symptoms we both experienced. No more stalling, rough idling, or excessive fuel consumption. The shop did a thorough job cleaning the entire air intake system while replacing the sensor. Performance is back to normal and fuel economy has significantly improved compared to when the sensor failure was causing problems. Regular maintenance of the air filter is important to prevent future mass air flow sensor issues. A clean filter helps ensure proper air flow readings and protects the new sensor from contamination. Since the repair, the check engine light has stayed off and engine performance has remained stable. The investment was worth it to avoid more serious engine problems down the line. The immediate improvement in how the car runs confirms it was definitely the right diagnosis and fix.

Thanks for the advice. Just wanted to close the loop on my MAF sensor situation. Took the car to a reputable shop specializing in Jaguars. The diagnostics confirmed what you all suggested, a failed mass air flow sensor was the root cause. The total repair came to 420€, which included the new sensor, cleaning the complete air intake system, and labor. A bit more than expected but the results were worth it. The check engine light cleared immediately and the engine runs like new again. Best part, no more embarrassing stalling at traffic lights and the fuel consumption is back to normal. The shop also showed me the before and after diagnostic readings to confirm the fix worked properly. Really glad I caught this before it caused more expensive problems. The mechanic was great too, took time to explain everything and even showed me how to properly maintain the air filter to prevent future sensor issues. Been driving for about a week now and everything is perfect. Thanks again for helping me avoid getting overcharged for a straightforward repair.

Had the same symptoms on my 2006 Jaguar S Type last month. The check engine light came on, followed by rough idling and excessive fuel consumption. The air intake system definitely needed attention when the engine started stalling at traffic stops. After proper diagnostics, it was confirmed the mass air flow sensor had failed. The sensor wasnt reading air volume correctly, causing the engine control unit to miscalculate the fuel mixture. This particular sensor failure is common in these engines after 100000 km. The repair involved cleaning the air intake system and replacing the mass air flow sensor. Not a complex job, but critical for proper engine function. Without the fix, continued driving would risk damage to the catalytic converter due to the improper air-fuel ratio. The symptoms matched exactly what youre describing, especially the poor fuel economy and rough running. Would recommend getting it checked soon, as driving with a faulty MAF sensor can lead to more expensive repairs down the line. Consider asking the shop to show you the diagnostic readings before and after repair. A proper fix should show immediate improvement in idle quality and eliminate the stalling issue.
