No leaks that I can see, but how did you figure out it was definitely the valve and not something else, like the heater core?

Well, I took it to the shop in the end. They ran some tests and confirmed it was the valve itself. Cost me about 80 quid to get it sorted on the Peugeot. Probably best to get it checked professionally, they'll be able to tell you for sure.

Cheers for the advice. Took it to a local place, and you were spot on – water valve was knackered. New one fitted, plus labour, came to 95€. Heating is now working perfectly.

Sounds familiar. Had a similar issue with my old Peugeot 308 – weak heat and an error code. In my case it was also the water valve acting up. Have you checked the valve itself for any obvious damage or leaks?
