Jeep Compass Cruise Control Failure Fix & Cost Guide

I need advice for my 2013 Jeep Compass (147k km, gasoline engine). The cruise control has become non-functional and shows an error message in the dashboard. Already checked and there is an error code stored. Has anyone experienced similar issues with their cruise control system? Looking for recommendations on potential causes and repair costs before visiting a mechanic, since my last repair experience was not great.

Recently dealt with a similar cruise control issue on a 2016 Jeep Cherokee. The diagnostics revealed a faulty throttle body actuator which caused the cruise control to become non-functional. The car electronics system was showing similar error codes. The repair involved testing multiple components: Throttle position sensor connections, Cruise control module wiring, Brake pedal switch functionality The root cause was a deteriorated wiring connection between the throttle body and the main control module. The repair required replacing several corroded pins in the connector and recalibrating the throttle body actuator. It was a serious issue since the throttle response was also becoming inconsistent. This is a known weak point in these models. The fix requires specific diagnostic equipment to properly reset the system after repair. A regular inspection of electrical connections could have prevented this issue. If your error codes match, focus on having the throttle body connections and actuator thoroughly checked. These components work together with the cruise control system and often cause similar symptoms when failing.

Thanks for sharing such detailed feedback about the cruise control malfunction on your Cherokee. Your throttle body actuator issue sounds very similar to what I am experiencing with my Compass. I would really appreciate knowing how much this repair ended up costing you. Also, have you had any recurring issues with the car electronics since getting it fixed? My vehicle has been showing inconsistent behavior and I want to make sure I address all potential problems when I take it to the shop.

Following up on the cruise control malfunction issue I described earlier, I had it repaired last month and the total cost came to 95 Euro for fixing a defective cable connection at the control module. The car electronics have been working perfectly since the repair. The root cause turned out to be simpler than the throttle body problem I initially suspected. The mechanic found a loose plug connection that was causing intermittent failures in the cruise control system. The fix involved cleaning the connection points and securing the wiring properly. No issues since then, the cruise control functions normally and all error codes have cleared from the system. The steering wheel controls are responding consistently now. A thorough check of the fuse box and surrounding wiring harness was also done to prevent similar issues from developing. This preventive inspection was included in the repair cost.

I took my Compass to the shop last week after reading about your experience. The mechanic found a faulty system connection similar to what you described. The repair process was straightforward, they located a damaged wire near the throttle body actuator that was causing the cruise control malfunction. Total repair cost was 220 Euro, which included: Diagnostic testing, Wire harness repair, System recalibration, Labor costs The car electronics are now working perfectly. No error codes or cruise control issues since the fix. The inconsistent behavior has completely stopped. Much better experience than my last repair visit, this shop took time to explain the exact problem and showed me the damaged components. Worth every cent to have it properly diagnosed and fixed rather than guessing at the issue.
