Thanks for sharing that experience. The symptoms you described match my situation perfectly, especially the power loss and rough idle issues during cold starts. The fact that it was resolved by fixing the wiring harness gives me hope. Do you remember approximately how much you paid for the complete repair? Also, has everything been running smoothly since the fix, or have you noticed any other fuel system related problems? My fuel efficiency is still terrible and I want to make sure I address all potential issues while the diesel engine is being serviced.

The repair cost me 95 Euro for fixing the faulty cable connection at the fuel filter heater assembly. This turned out to be much more affordable than I initially feared, especially since engine stalling and power loss issues can sometimes indicate more serious problems. Since getting the wiring fixed, the engine has been running perfectly with no fuel system problems whatsoever. The rough idle disappeared completely and cold starts are now smooth. Fuel efficiency returned to normal levels within a few tank fills, this is because the system was finally able to properly heat and regulate the fuel flow. Just make sure your mechanic thoroughly checks all electrical connections around the fuel filter assembly, as corroded or loose wiring can cause similar symptoms to reappear. Getting this fixed promptly helps prevent potential damage to other fuel system components. The initial diagnosis in my case pointed to several possible issues, but focusing on the fuel filter heater connection saved both time and money. Its been 8 months since the repair, and the engine performance has remained consistently strong.

I took your advice and had my Patriot checked by a different mechanic who actually knew what to look for. Turns out you were spot on about the fuel filter heater wiring issue. The connector was completely corroded and barely making contact. The total repair came to 120 Euro, which included a new wiring harness and labor. They also did a full fuel system inspection while they were at it. The rough idle problems cleared up immediately after the fix, and the diesel engine is now running like new again. My fuel efficiency has improved dramatically, getting about 15% better mileage now. Cold starts are smooth, and the engine management light hasnt come back on. Such a relief to have this sorted without any major engine work being needed. Just finished my first full tank since the repair and everything is working perfectly. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction with this one.

Had a similar issue with my 2013 Jeep Compass diesel. The symptoms were nearly identical, power loss during acceleration and rough idle after cold starts. The fuel filter heater was indeed the culprit, but the root cause was a damaged wiring harness connector that corroded over time. This led to intermittent electrical connection, causing the filter heater to malfunction. When this happens, fuel doesnt warm properly during cold starts, leading to poor combustion and the check engine light. The repair involved: Complete diagnostic scan, Inspection of the fuel line and filter assembly, Replacement of the wiring harness connector, Installation of new fuel filter This was a serious issue that needed immediate attention, as continued operation could have led to fuel system damage and potential engine problems. After the repair, the rough idle disappeared completely and power delivery returned to normal. If these symptoms match yours, have a technician specifically check the electrical connections around the fuel filter heater assembly. The connector failure is a known weak point in this model range.
