Juke water sensor issue

I have a 2011 Nissan Juke, diesel engine, with about 84,455 km. The check engine light keeps appearing, and the error codes point to a water sensor malfunction. The engine is also running a bit rough sometimes. I've checked the sensor visually, and nothing seems obviously broken. Any ideas?

I had a similar issue with my Juke. That water sensor can be a real pain. Did you check the cable and plug connection to the sensor itself? That was my problem. Apparently, they can get corroded or just loose over time.

Cheers for the tip! I gave it a quick look, but didn't really focus on it. How exactly did you check the connection? Did you use a multimeter?

No multimeter needed. I just unplugged it, cleaned the contacts with some electrical contact cleaner, and made sure it was firmly plugged back in. But if that doesn't fix it, it's best to take it to a workshop; could be a faulty sensor. It was enough in my case, but better safe than sorry.

Thanks a lot for the advice! I checked the cable and plug like you suggested, gave it a clean, and that seems to have done the trick. The check engine light is gone, and the engine runs smoothly again. I saved 95€ by finding the problem myself!
