Jumper Intermittent Starting Issue

I'm having trouble with my 2010 Citroen Jumper, diesel engine, 235460 km on the clock. The engine just won't start sometimes. Other times, it starts okay, but shuts off after a few minutes. Sometimes it runs really rough. I thought it might be the battery, but the dashboard lights come on fine when I turn the key. Could it be the starter motor? Or the ignition switch?

Sounds similar to an issue I had with my old Vauxhall Corsa. The symptoms are like a dodgy tap - sometimes water flows, sometimes it doesn't. Have you checked the fuses? There might be one specifically for the ignition. Also, does it happen more when the engine is cold or hot, or is it completely random?

I did check some of the fuses, but I'm not really sure which one is for the ignition. Where would I find that info, and is it possible for a fuse to be defective even if it looks okay?

The fuse box diagram should be in your owner's manual. I recommend checking there before doing anything. Yes, a fuse can look fine but still be bad. It may not be completing the circuit properly and causing intermittent issues. I would strongly suggest having a workshop take a look at it.

I finally got it sorted. Turns out it was a defective fuse causing the problem. The mechanic replaced it, and everything's running smoothly again. Final bill came to 52€.
