Ka Coolant Loss

Hi, I have a 2001 Ford Ka with a gasoline engine and I've been having some trouble. The check engine light keeps coming on, and when I checked the error memory, it seems to be related to low coolant level. I've noticed I'm having to top up the coolant more often than I used to. Could this be a simple coolant leak, or something more serious like a head gasket issue or engine overheating? The car has 83628 km. Any thoughts before I start tearing things apart?

Hey, I had almost the exact same thing happen with my Ka. Coolant disappearing, engine light on... It's a pain, right? Has the cooling fan been running more than usual? And have you checked for any obvious signs of a coolant leak around the engine or radiator fluid?

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't really noticed the cooling fan running more, but I'll pay closer attention. Regarding leaks, I can't see anything obvious, but it's difficult to get a good look at all the hoses. Did you find a leak on yours, or was it something else?

In my case, it wasn't immediately obvious, but it was a small leak near the water pump. Nothing major, but enough to cause the coolant to drop over time. Honestly, without proper tools, it's tough to diagnose yourself. I'd suggest taking it to a workshop; they'll pressure test the system and find the leak in no time.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to the workshop as you suggested. They found a small leak at one of the coolant hoses. They replaced the hose and topped up the coolant. The total cost was 52€. Hopefully, that's the end of it. Appreciate the help!
