Kadjar Transmission Stuck in Park

Experiencing a perplexing issue with my 2021 Renault Kadjar diesel. It has 129279 km. The automatic transmission seems stuck in 'Park'. The engine refuses to start, the check engine light is on, and the gearbox has been slipping. The error memory is also storing some unpleasant news. I suspect a defective control unit. Has anyone else encountered this sort of transmission failure? What could be causing this and what should I check?

That sounds eerily familiar. I had a similar 'stuck in park' saga with my old Opel Insignia. Different brand, but the symptoms were almost identical. Engine wouldn't crank, lights on the dash, and the transmission felt like it was fighting me. In my case, it was a faulty sensor in the shift linkage.

A faulty sensor? Where exactly was this sensor located in your Opel? Was it difficult to access, or did it require specialized tools? I'm trying to get a sense of whether this is something I could potentially troubleshoot myself, or if I should just brace myself for a hefty bill at the repair shop.

Honestly, I couldn't tell you the exact location. It was buried somewhere deep inside the transmission housing; certainly beyond my abilities. I wouldn't recommend poking around in there yourself unless you're a seasoned mechanic. It sounds like you have a similar problem though, so go to a proper mechanic.

I appreciate you sharing your experience! I took your advice and brought it to a workshop, where they confirmed that the control unit was indeed defective and it costed 1000€ to fix. Thanks again for the help!
