Kalos gearbox slippage
Summary of the thread
A 2008 Chevrolet Kalos is experiencing gearbox slippage and unclean shifting at 20,711 km. Diagnostics indicate a potential transfer case oil wear fault, possibly due to defective gears. The issue may be linked to worn gear oil, which could contain metal shavings, suggesting significant internal wear. A professional workshop inspection is recommended to address the problem, as it may involve complex repairs beyond a simple oil change.

Thanks. I checked the gear oil and it shows significant wear. What issues did you have, and how did you fix them? Can I fix it myself or do I need a professional?

For me, it started with rough shifts, then slipping. I hoped it was just low on gear oil, but it was full of metal shavings. I'm no mechanic, so I took it straight to a workshop. The transfer case gears were shot. Not worth fixing myself.

Thanks, I'll get a workshop to check the transfer case oil wear. Sounds like the gears are the problem, like I thought. The repair was about 330€.

Hey, I've got a Kalos too! Sounds rough. I had similar problems, but much later. Check your gear oil. Has it been changed recently? What does it look like?
