Kalos high fuel consumption hard start
Summary of the thread
A 2008 Chevrolet Kalos was experiencing high fuel consumption and difficulty starting. The initial suspicion was a defective engine throttle or accelerator pedal module. After consulting a mechanic, it was confirmed that the accelerator pedal module was indeed faulty. The repair resolved the issues, and the vehicle now functions properly.

Is it possible to diagnose error codes without specialized diagnostic equipment, or do I need professional help?

Probably best to get it scanned. The cheap readers work, but a proper code reader at a workshop will tell you exactly what's up. It's worth it to diagnose the fault properly before throwing parts at it. Could be a simple fix, or something more expensive! I reckon it's still the throttle body or pedal module...

Following your advice, I consulted a mechanic, who confirmed the defective accelerator pedal module. The repair, including parts and labour, was 205€. The vehicle now operates as expected. Thank you again.

Whoa, heavy stuff! High fuel consumption AND poor starts? Seems like a dodgy throttle position sensor could be messing with your fuel/air mix. Have you checked for any error codes? That's usually the first step, right?
