Kangoo alarm system malfunction

Hi, I'm having trouble with the anti-theft alarm system on my 2009 Renault Kangoo, diesel engine. Mileage is at 106640 km. There's an error stored in the error memory, and the alarm system isn't functioning. It seems the alarm system might be coded to activate the optical locking (indicators), but that's just a hunch. Has anyone experienced something similar?

Hello! I also drive a Kangoo, and I remember facing a similar issue with my alarm system a while back. In my case, the alarm would randomly go off, or sometimes not arm at all. Have you checked the battery voltage recently? A weak battery can sometimes cause weird electrical issues that trigger the alarm system.

Thanks for the quick response! I haven't specifically checked the battery voltage, but the car starts without any issues. Could a slightly weak battery still cause problems with the alarm system even if it's sufficient for starting the engine? Any idea how to check?

Yes, even if the battery is strong enough to start the engine, a voltage drop during certain operations can confuse the alarm control unit. I eventually had a technician check the error memory and they told me the alarm system was coded to activate optical locking (indicators). They fixed it at the workshop. I would suggest visiting a workshop.

Alright, thanks for the information! I'll check the battery voltage first, but it sounds like a trip to the workshop might be necessary. I went to a local mechanic and they recoded the alarm control unit for 45€. Apparently, the alarm system was indeed set to activate optical locking, which was causing the malfunction.
