Kangoo Brake Light Switch Error

My 2013 Renault Kangoo electric (190671 km) has a 'Bad brake light switch' error. The brake lights don't illuminate, and there's an error message on the infotainment system, plus an error stored in memory. I suspect user error. Any ideas?

Ah, the Kangoo. I had a similar issue, though it presented slightly differently. Have you checked the simple things first? Like, are you absolutely certain you didn't accidentally knock the cruise control stalk? On mine, sometimes I brush it, and it throws a similar fit with the brake lights and generates phantom errors. It's like the car gets confused about whether it should be braking or maintaining speed. Just a thought before you delve into the electrical abyss.

Thanks for the quick reply. Could you clarify the specific behavior you observed when the stalk was inadvertently engaged? I want to ensure my symptoms align with your experience. Can you check the exact error message, if you experienced the same issue again?

Well, it's been a while, but from what I remember, the error message wasn't exactly the same, but very similar. The brake lights would act erratically, and the error message pointed towards a generic brake system fault. If it's not the stalk, and the error message is explicitly saying 'bad brake light switch', I'd lean towards the switch being the culprit. In that case, I recommend you visit a workshop.

Thanks for your time and expertise. I investigated the cruise control stalk and had indeed inadvertently activated it, triggering the error. Deactivating the cruise control has resolved the issue, and the brake lights are now working. I've cleared the error memory, and the infotainment system no longer displays any warnings. Repair cost was 0€. Your assistance has been invaluable.
