Kangoo high fuel consumption and stalling

I'm having serious issues with my 2004 Renault Kangoo with a gasoline engine. I've noticed higher fuel consumption lately, and the engine stalls frequently at idle. The check engine light is also on, and there's some smoke when I accelerate. Could this be a defective mass air flow meter (LMM)? I'm at a loss here!

Sounds familiar. I had almost the exact same symptoms with my Kangoo, although I didn't notice any smoke. Have you checked the air intake recently? Maybe there's a blockage affecting the air-fuel ratio? Could also be that the mass air flow sensor is defective...

Thanks for the quick reply! No, I haven't checked the air intake specifically. Where exactly should I be looking, and what would a blockage look like? Is it easy enough to inspect myself?

Honestly, I'm not the most mechanically gifted, haha! If you're unsure, and since the check engine light is on, my suggestion would be to get it checked by a workshop to be safe. I ended up replacing the mass air flow meter, and it solved everything. It cost me around 365€ including labor.

Great! That's really helpful. I'll take it to the workshop then. Hopefully, it's just the mass air flow meter. Thanks a lot for sharing your experience, it's given me a much better idea of what to expect! It indeed was the mass air flow sensor. Replacing it solved all the issues!
