Key battery low warning on Mercedes V Klasse

I'm getting a 'Key battery low' warning in my 2017 Mercedes V Klasse diesel. The keyless entry stopped working, and there's an error stored in the system. Now, unlocking and locking the car is unreliable. Could it really just be a dead key battery after only six years?

Indeed, it's a common issue, even with Mercedes keys. I've experienced similar problems with my older Mercedes. A 'Key battery low' warning, accompanied by the keyless entry malfunction, almost certainly points to a depleted battery in your electronic key. Before assuming a more complex electronic issue, prioritize a simple battery replacement.

So, it's really that simple? I thought the key batteries lasted longer. Is it a special kind of battery, or can I just grab one from the store?

While more complex issues can occur, a dead battery is the most probable cause given your symptoms. It is a coin-type battery, CR2025 or CR2032 are commonly used. Consult your owner's manual to verify the correct type. If the issue persists after replacement, it's advisable to seek assistance from a qualified technician for further diagnostics.

Thanks for the advice. I replaced the battery, and everything's working fine now. The total cost was 37€ for the battery and some time in the workshop for a quick checkup. I appreciate the help!
