Kia Carens 2016 Engine Issues: Possible Camshaft Sensor Problem

Hey everyone, I'm getting a bit anxious about my 2016 Kia Carens that's clocked 124,443 KM so far. She's a gasoline engine and recently she's been acting up: check engine light won't go off, the engine's power is on and off, she's jerking when I accelerate and even stalled while idling once. Moreover, she wouldn't start up a couple of times. My gut's telling me it's a camshaft sensor issue - anyone here experienced something similar? How did your mechanic handle it? My last mechanic interaction was a nightmare, so hoping for a smoother ride this time. I'd love to hear your stories!

Hey, your symptoms definitely ring a bell. I had a similar situation with my 2013 Kia Sorento. Like yours, she's a petrol engine. Had almost the same mileage when these problems started up. The engine light was glaringly on, the power was erratic, pretty much everything you described including stalling and starting problems. Turned out to be a camshaft sensor issue just like you suspected. It indeed was a serious issue, although it didn't sound so serious at the start. Ignoring it wasn't a good idea as it affects the engine performance and fuel economy as well. Also, the risk of engine stalling and not starting up was something I didn't want to gamble with. My garage guys were great though, they diagnosed it, told me the problem was with the wheel sensor on the camshaft. They replaced it and my old girl's been good as new ever since. No jerks, no erratic power, and most importantly no engine light. So, a bad camshaft sensor, especially on these Kias, is something that should be taken care of immediately. All the best hope you get it sorted soon!

Hey there! Sounds all too familiar with what I'm going through, glad to hear I might be on the right track with the camshaft sensor. It's really stressful when you're dealing with erratic power and a moody engine. Just a couple of things before I bolt to the garage. Roughly, how much damage did it do to your wallet to get this fixed? Also, has anything else cropped up since the sensor change or has your Kia been on her best behavior? Cheers!

Hey there! Yeah, I can definitely relate to the stress of dealing with an unpredictable engine! As for the cost, it ran me to about 695 € to get the sensor wheel on the camshaft fixed. Not the cheapest day for sure, but hey, you gotta keep the old girl running smoothly, right? And to answer your second question, since I got the camshaft sensor issue sorted, my Kia's been a dream on wheels. No more acting up, no more engine light, nothing. It's as if the visit to the mech was a wake-up call for her and she's been on her absolute best behaviour since. I hope that helps! I know it's a bit of a hit to the wallet, but believe me, it pays off in the end. Best of luck!

Cheers for the breakdown! Yeah, agree, keeping the old beauties running smooth is worth a hit to the wallet from time to time. It's great to know that there weren't any further problems post camshaft sensor replacement. Fingers crossed, mine would behave the same. Your insight definitely eased up my nerves, heading over to the mechanic in a bit. Hopefully, I'll get a sweet deal like you did, if not cheaper! Will keep everyone posted on how it goes. Thanks again!
