Koleos brake light switch error

Yes, I read out the error memory myself using an OBD scanner. It's possible I touched the brake pedal while the vehicle was off. Could that cause the brake light switch to fail completely?

It's unlikely to cause a complete failure, but it can definitely cause a temporary malfunction. The system probably registered an illogical state (brake light on without the engine running). A trip to the workshop would be best. They should be able to reset the switch or at least properly diagnose the problem.

Thanks for the advice. I took the Koleos to the workshop, and they confirmed the error was due to inadvertent brake pedal activation as you suggested. They simply cleared the error code and reset the switch. There was no charge for the repair. Your input was greatly appreciated.

I had a similar issue with my Koleos. Did you accidentally touch the brake pedal while the car was off? The brake light switch can get confused if the pedal isn't fully released during startup. The switch itself closes a circuit when you depress the brake pedal, activating the brake lights. When you say it's in the error memory, did you read this out yourself?
