Koleos Preheating Lamp Issue

Hi, I have a 2008 Renault Koleos with a diesel engine. I'm experiencing a persistent issue: the preheating lamp won't switch off. The check engine light also comes on, and there's noticeable smoke when accelerating. I suspect it might be a defective preheating control unit.

Sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my Koleos. Is the engine cranking okay? Have you checked the glow plugs themselves? A faulty plug can sometimes trigger the same symptoms. Also, have you had the car scanned for error codes? That's usually the first step to pinpoint the culprit. Could be an electrical fault.

Thanks for the quick response. I haven't checked the glow plugs individually yet, but I did scan for error codes. It points towards the preheating control unit. Any idea what the likely cause is?

Yep, that's what happened with mine. Turned out to be a dodgy cable or plug connection to the preheating control unit. I'd suggest having a mechanic take a look, but be prepared to potentially replace the module. It's part of the ignition system. I would go to the workshop to be sure about the problem.

Thanks a lot for the insight! I took it to the workshop, and you were spot on. It was a defective connection to the preheating control unit. The repair cost me 95€, and now it's running smoothly again.
