Kona ABS Lateral Acceleration Sensor Fault

My 2020 Hyundai Kona Electric with 198618 km has the ABS lamp illuminated. Diagnostics revealed an error for the lateral acceleration sensor. I suspect a defective control unit. Has anyone experienced similar symptoms?

Summary of the thread

A 2020 Hyundai Kona Electric exhibited an illuminated ABS lamp, with diagnostics indicating a fault in the lateral acceleration sensor. The owner suspected a defective control unit as the cause. After visiting an official Hyundai workshop, it was confirmed that the control unit was indeed defective and required replacement.

Oh, ABS issues are never fun! Especially with all those sensors and computers talking to each other. Lateral acceleration sensor... isn't that something to do with how the car 'feels' when you turn? Like, yaw rate and all that jazz? I had a weird thing happen with my old hatchback once, after I hit a curb pretty hard. The traction control light kept coming on, and the steering felt a bit wonky. Did you, by any chance, have any 'spirited' driving moments or maybe encounter a particularly nasty pothole recently? Could've knocked something out of alignment, maybe?

To clarify, could a misalignment of the wheels potentially trigger a fault in the lateral acceleration sensor? I am trying to determine the scope of potential issues before proceeding with what appears to be an inevitable repair.

Well, I'm no expert, but it makes sense that if the wheels aren't aligned properly, the sensor might get confused and throw an error. I'm just thinking out loud here, but if the car thinks it's turning more or less than it actually is, that could mess with the ABS and traction control systems. Honestly though, with an actual error code popping up, and you already suspecting the control unit... yeah, sounds like a workshop visit is in order. I hope it won't be too expensive.

I took my Kona to the official Hyundai workshop. You were correct that a visit was necessary. The control unit was found to be defective and it was replaced. The total repair cost was approximately 1000€.
