Kona engine issues hissing whistling
Summary of the thread
A 2019 Hyundai Kona is experiencing engine issues, including a check engine light, reduced power, poor response, stalling at idle, increased fuel consumption, and a hissing or whistling noise during acceleration. The problem may be related to a defect in the turbocharger's wastegate valve, as similar symptoms were resolved by addressing this issue. Checking the intercooler hoses and throttle body is advised, but professional inspection and repair may be necessary.

Boost pressure? What exactly went wrong with yours, and what did it sound like? Was it constant, or only under acceleration?

Yeah, boost pressure. Turned out to be a defect in the wastegate valve for the turbocharger. The hissing was more obvious when accelerating, and the whistling was pretty constant once the engine warmed up. Check the intercooler hoses and throttle body too, but sounds like you may need a workshop. Mine cost around 860€ to fix.

Thanks, that's really helpful. I'll check those hoses but probably head to a shop. It does sound like the wastegate, especially with the hissing. I appreciate the advice!

Sounds familiar. I had something similar happen with my Kona. Was it the boost pressure by any chance? I had whistling noises too.
