Kona Loud Exhaust and Error
Summary of the thread
A 2019 Hyundai Kona owner reported a loud exhaust noise, particularly after a cold start, and an error code. The suspected cause was a malfunctioning exhaust flap. Another individual confirmed similar symptoms and suggested that the exhaust flap might be stuck, affecting noise regulation. The issue was resolved by replacing the defective exhaust flap at a workshop.

Thanks for the quick reply! No noticeable difference in performance or fuel consumption, just the noise and the error code. What exactly happened when your exhaust flaps went bad? Was it a constant loud noise, or only at certain times?

Mine was mostly loud at startup and low speeds. The flaps are supposed to regulate exhaust flow and reduce noise, especially when the engine is cold. If they're stuck, that'd explain the noise and the error. Best bet is to get it checked at a workshop; probably a defective exhaust flap.

Thanks a lot for the info! I took it to the workshop, and you were right – it was the exhaust flap. Defective as you assumed. Repair cost me 190€ Appreciate the help!

Sounds familiar! I had a similar problem with my Kona. The exhaust noise was driving me nuts! It could very well be the exhaust flap motor. Have you noticed any difference in performance or fuel consumption?
