Kuga power loss and whistling noise

I have a 2009 Ford Kuga, diesel engine, with 233732 km. The check engine light keeps popping on, and the car feels like it's lost power. Acceleration is awful, sometimes it even stalls when idling. I'm burning fuel like crazy, and there's this weird whistling noise, almost like a loud hissing, especially when I try to accelerate. I'm thinking it might be something with the boost pressure system. Could it be the wastegate? Maybe an intercooler leak? I've even considered the MAP sensor. Any ideas?

Sounds familiar. I had something similar with my Kuga. Is it also sluggish, like bad turbo lag?

Turbo lag? Absolutely! It's like there's a huge delay when I put my foot down. Did you also hear a whistling sound?

Yep, the whistling was there too. Turned out to be a defect in the wastegate valve. I'd get it checked at a workshop. They will tell you what's wrong. Saved me a lot of headaches.

Thanks for the tip! Took it to the shop, and you were spot on – wastegate valve was the culprit. Cost me 860€ to get it fixed, but at least the Kuga's back to its old self.
